The Deane Dana Friendship Community Regional Park & Nature Center overlooks the San Pedro and (from the top of the hill) Santa Catalina Island, this 123-acre park has a picnic area, children’s play area, and large turf areas. A natural history museum, classrooms, live animals, and other displays educate and entertain in the new 4,000-square-foot Nature Center . Many activities including bird walks, naturalist classes for adults and children, craft classes, hiking, picnicking, birthday parties, school field trips, and nature camps are available. Young children will enjoy the shaded playground in a sand lot surrounded by lawn. To build the skills of individuals with varying abilities and developmental needs by providing, within a safe haven, comprehensive clinical treatment, vocational training and work opportunities in order to achieve meaningful and productive lives. Our transitional shelter is currently operating on a limited basis until secure funding is acquired.
The Women’s Lodge
Just a few minutes up the road from Burbank’s IKEA, a peaceful Japanese garden-park welcomes visitors to come soak in a little Zen while briefly escaping city life. We’re proud to be leading the efforts to reclaim community for San Francisco’s 18,000 Native peoples. 92% of our graduates are sober 6 months after completing the program. Being the oldest woman’s rehabilitation facility in the world, I would love to see us grow and stand out among the big institutions out there.

She has practiced in a variety of legal areas including dependency law, family law, workers’ compensation law, and most recently, disability rights and special education. Heather’s work includes starting a mental health team for Children’s Law Center and running a crisis and mental health program at her church, Bel Air Church (formely Bel Air Presbyterian Church). Heather earned her Juris Doctorate from The George Washington University Law School and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University, Long Beach. At the Women’s Lodge, moms of children ages 0-5, and expectant mothers, receive community support and in-patient treatment in a setting that allows moms and their children to stay, and heal, together. I had heard of the miraculous stories of sustained sobriety from a multitude of Peggy Albrecht Friendly House alumni for over 22 years. However, I began my personal association with Peggy Albrecht Friendly House about 9 years ago after losing both of my brothers to the disease of alcoholism and addiction. I found a renewed sense of purpose and hope the more involved I became with women who were desperately seeking sobriety, as well as, a new way of living. With a background in social work, I carry a deep understanding of the unique challenges facing women struggling with addiction.

Heather works for Disability Rights California as a Supervising Clients’ Rights Advocate/Supervising Attorney. It is our mission to continue to provide an environment in which women can recover from the devastation of drug and alcohol addiction and progress toward healthy families and communities. We opened our doors over 50 years ago and serve countless recovering people each year without charge. We provide a space for AA and Al-Anon meetings seven days per week, 365 days per year. “As long as there are people who need our services, we hope to be able to provide them,” Koesterman said. Health Support Services is designed to provide individuals with monthly health related check-ups.
Having this personal experience, Rachel is able to understand the courage it takes to reach out for help. Friendship House is dedicated to serving children, adolescents, and adults with developmental disabilities, emotional or behavioral difficulties, or who are traumatized by loss, abuse, or neglect. We believe in finding and providing the best treatment options for every individual with the help of commitment and supportive staff. Our dedication manifests itself by providing individualized services that promote resilience in children and recovery in adults, and maximize the physical, emotional, behavioral, and social well-being of those we serve.
Peggy Albrecht Friendly House’s historic mission, to help woman recover from the deadly disease of alcoholism and addiction, is extremely close to my heart. I am honored to be a part of this life changing and life-saving organization. Morgan is a practicing attorney who has devoted her career thus far to public service, and currently serves as a Deputy District Attorney in Los Angeles. Morgan earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Diplomatic History, with a minor in African-American Studies from the University of Pennsylvania.
Our 24-hour hotline offers crisis assistance, safety planning, shelter placement, and information & referrals to service providers throughout Los Angeles County. Our bilingual English/Spanish operators understand the needs of families impacted by domestic violence and are here to give support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Peoria Friendship House provides a holistic approach toward a path to overcome poverty through wrap-around services and short and long-term coaching. Individuals and families desiring to improve their circumstances work alongside our Program Managers and create an achievement plan towards overcoming their own individual specific issues and improving their lives.
